Our Research Ethos and Community

Cordoba Research Group is a student-led research platform built on the belief that, with the right tools, students can change the way markets are understood. Founded by students with experience at leading firms, CRG is both a research platform and a training ground, where analysts learn how to think rather than what to think. Through publishing research notes, hosting workshops, and working on live projects, we provide hands-on learning, mentorship, and real market exposure. Alongside this, we are developing proprietary analytical models to strengthen our research capabilities, with a growing focus on Central Asia, a region we see as both under-researched and intellectually exciting to engage with.

We prioritise deep analysis over quick takes, curiosity over certainty, and good questions over fast answers, encouraging independent thinking, counterfactual analysis, and openness to different viewpoints, while approaching research with humility and an understanding that even the best models can be wrong. Our Purpose & Direction

The Epicentre for Knowledge, Curiosity, and Growth

Cordoba exists to expand research capacity and become an epicentre of knowledge transfer and creativity. We believe many students are trained to operate within inherited mental boxes shaped by narrow curricula, recruitment pipelines, and consensus thinking. Our aim is to help students step outside those frameworks, question first principles, and engage with under-explored ideas and regions. A core part of this mission is our focus on Central Asia, where we are actively building relationships with sovereign wealth funds, policymakers, and regional stakeholders to better understand economies that are often overlooked despite their strategic importance.

The name Cordoba reflects this ethos. The city of Córdoba was once a place where people of different faiths and backgrounds, Muslim, Jewish, and Christian came together to share ideas, conduct research, and debate openly. That spirit of intellectual openness, exchange, and curiosity is what we seek to embody today.

Looking Ahead

Connecting Ethical Finance, Research, and the Next Generation

Long term, Cordoba aims to become a connector of ethical and purpose-led finance, a place where students, professionals, and institutions come together to exchange ideas, research, and opportunity. One of the persistent challenges in ethical and Islamic finance is awareness; many students simply do not encounter these fields early enough. Cordoba acts as a bridge between the professional and student worlds, allowing the next generation to learn directly from practitioners rather than through second-hand summaries.

Alongside this mission, we are building proprietary systems to strengthen our research capabilities, including the Global Macro Engine, with further analytical tools in development. These systems are designed to support deeper, more systematic analysis across asset classes and regions, reinforcing our goal of creating durable research infrastructure alongside a values-driven financial community.

Advisors act as the “invisible hand” supporting CRG, helping us grow, stay aligned with our mission, and make better long-term decisions as the platform evolves. The role is intentionally light-touch, with no day-to-day involvement, focused instead on offering perspective, access, and guidance at key moments.

Analyst Mentor

A hands-on role supporting students with ongoing research projects.

Mentors act as a supportive backstop for students as they work through research questions, drafts, and ideas. They are available for guidance, sense-checking, and practical insight when needed, rather than serving as a first point of contact. The role is intentionally light-touch, typically around 30 minutes to an hour a week, and focused on helping students navigate uncertainty, improve their research, and build confidence.
